This is Jim Dowson I’m dedicating this website to my home town of Crook in County Durham, England and to my friends and acquaintances who lived in Crook, Willington Tow Law and the surrounding areas. Many thanks to those of you who have shared a part of your lives and your photographs with me.
I hope everyone who views this site will enjoy looking at the old photographs of the town and the people in it and maybe recognise themselves or some of the people shown here. It is my hope that they will get a few laughs. Maybe stir up some of the old memories of the good and not so good times we all had while trying to cope with life growing up in a pit town during the war years. The photos are randomly placed. My sincere thanks to John Morson, Mike Manual, Dennis Longstaff and countless others, many of whom I’ve never met but who generously passed along their photographs to be posted on this site.

Where it all began
A Bit about Me
I was born in a little stone house next to the Burnhope Reservoir in the Dales. I was the youngest of 7 children. We moved to Crook where I attended the Crook Elementary school. I joined the RAF in 1951 and in 1958 I emigrated to Vancouver BC Canada and lived there for 3 years before emigrating to the USA.
While living in Southern California I met my beautiful wife Beverly who was teaching there. We have 2 sons who are both married and have families of their own now. Life is Good.
